The Power is in the Asking

Women are great helpers but most of the time they are not asking for what they want The Power is in the Asking so I encourage all of you when you go to meetings and you do your 30 second or 60 second elevator talk you add in how you can help me is..
If you don;t ask, people don't know what you are looking for. In most cases you will not get what you want. It is in the manor that you ask, and if it is within the reach of the other party or parties, they will give you what you want.
But how do you ask?
Know what you want-you can only ask for what you want when you know what you want. Set a target figure in your mind if you are in a business dealing. Be specific, be daring, assume that you already got it when you ask.
So start today and start asking for what it is you want.
Here are two examples of asking that I recently did so I can show you that it does work.
1. I recently heard a young man age 17 play the piano at a concert. His name is Kyle Shafiee and he is a concert piano genius after hearing him, I remembered that one of our members June Durr and her former boss Judith Valles the former mayor of San Bernardino CA were responsible for bring Carlo Ponti (Sophia Lorens son) to head up the San Bernardino Symphony as the conductor. I emailed June gave her Kyle's website which is piano@kyleshafiee.com and she listened to his playing on the site, she invited Klye and his parents and me to the last performance this past summer of the symphony and also made sure we were invited to the champagne reception so that Kyle could meet Carlo and get a photo with him, this did happen and at the reception Carlo was so impressed with this young man and his dedication to his music that he told him he would audition him when he returned from Italy in the Fall as a possible performer for the youth player at one of the symphony performances. This did happen recently and Carlo was so blown away with his playing of Mozart that he had him play many other pieces as Kyle like Carlo uses no music to play he just has the gift. The end result is that Kyle Shafiee has been booked to play the 2009 last performance of the San Bernardino Symphony (2008 had already been booked) needless to say this young man is thrilled. Go to his website and her him play yourself www.piano@kyleshafiee.com So this all happened because I showed up at an event and heard Kyle and I asked my contact who asked her contact and this happened so you see the power is in the asking.
2. This just happened this past Firday, I showed up at the Beverly Hills For You/NAFE meeting to support the network and the Director, and actually three things happend. 1. one fo the guests was the publisher of a beautiful mideastern national and international magazine for women and I sat with her and in talking with her I asked her if she ever used free lance writers as we have so many great writers in the network she said yes, so she is sending me her editorial calendar and her word count so I can get it out to all our members who might want to write for this dynamic magazine and gain not only national esposure but international exposire as well.
The second thing that happend is that the network meets at the Chocolat restaurant in Beverly Hills which is a 4 star beautiful restaurant and KIA the owner loves our group and supports the group as well. as some of you know four of us that met through being members of NAFE/For You have started a Womens International Foundation that has as one of its products to make monies for the foundation that will be helping women Wine. Needless to say none of us knew anything about wine, except to have a glass once in awhile, but I knew a few experts and asked them to help us learn which they did,and they opened the door to other expers like the person at Trader Joes who is responsible for buying all their wine as well as others so we really got some great education on wine and what to do and what not to do, how to develop labels, laws etc. We also through these connections found a wonderful winery in Paso Robles Ca that is blending our wines and they are great and already we have several restaurants and hotels ordering them once they taste them. We really throught when we started this that the wines would be sold by catalogs and home parties and on line never dreaming tht hotels like the Marriott and restaurants would want to add them to their wine lists. NAFE Members are also buying them as holiday gifts.
Well any way I gave KIA the wine flyer and said he needed to support the cause and we four women and he looked at it and said "sure, set up a date with my bar manager for a wine tasting and training for my staff and if we like it we will add it to our wine list", so I called one of my partners Leanne Sabo who is the director of Long Beach For You/NAFE network put KIA on the line with her on my cell phone right then and they set up a date to do the tasting next Tuesday and we will see what happens from there, my partners in this are Margie Padavan and Leanne Sabo from the Long Beach For Youy/NAFE network and June Davidson the director of the Pasadena For You/NAFE network. In talking with Leanne that day she told me that also Safeway stores are considering stocking the wine.
We are also planning a big launch party in the spring at the winery in Paso Robles. One of the wines which will be a signature wine is called Hormone Tuesday which is named after a movie that Margie wrote and is hoping soon to go to production on.
Then since I was on a roll with KIA I asked him if he would share in the cost of doing a mailing to people in the area to build up the attendees at the Bevcerly Hills For You/NAFE meeting as well as it would build up people coming to his restaurant and if he would pay 1/2 to buy the mailing list and 1//2 cost to develop what was going to be mailed and 1/2 the postage the network would pay the other half and he immediately said yes, he would contact his contact person who could generate the lists for the area and the labels. So that is happening and Alina Estrada the Director of BH FY/NAFE network will be following up with him next week to get that out.
So perhaps this is something other networks could ask their meeting locations for as it not only helps the network but builds up the numbers of people coming to the restaurant with the end result being more monies for the restaurant and more members for the network.
So think about asking its very powerful and most of the time it works, just as I have outlined in these three very recent examples and I have hundreds of other examples just like this.
